Safe Cycling Checklist
  • Click here for pre-ride bike checks, and remember to bring puncture repair tools+spare inner tube (or equivalent if you are tubeless).
  • Check that the distance, climb, terrain and speed fit you and your bike. Rides designated "guided", "social", "C ride" or "community" are usually pitched at the beginner. "A ride", "sportive", "audax" or "ironman" rides are not. Click here for Lets Ride mainly shorter rides.
  • If you arn't sure about the distance you can cycle, click here for routes that you can check out for yourself.
  • Click here for a BBC weather and here for Met Office weather (so that you can bring appropriate clothing for the ride).
  • If you want to go on a ride, check the link to the ride organiser's site to check that the ride is still on and not full. Then book your place if possible. Check the ride site again just before setting off in case it has been cancelled.
  • When you arrive at the start point, tell the ride leader about any medical condition that they should be aware of.
  • Bring water and snacks to keep you going between stops. Also bring cash and cards for lunch and coffee stops.
  • Click here for more advice (British Cycling).
