First Wednesday of the Month
Follow on from the success of the Bike to Work Day 2008, we have held monthly cycling to work events event month since October 2008. The rides are on the 1st Wednesday of each month starting from 7 points around Greater Manchester and head into the Higher Education Precinct. The rides are designed to be friendly and to encourage new people to take up cycling, so we tend to take a little longer and use the quieter roads. Please put up a poster!
And if you would like to find somebody cycling in from where you like, whatever the day, or can offer to show new cyclists your route, you can sign to the Cycle Buddy scheme

Cyclists at Oct 2008’s Cycle to Work Day
Here are the details of starting and pick-up points for the various routes, together with the Route Guides’ names.
All routes will converge at the Higher/Health Education Precinct (HEP), which comprises Univ of Manchester (UoM), MMU, RNCM and MRI/hospitals.
If you would like to help with a ride please email
Top Tips
- Cycle safe, cycle legal
- Please pump up your tyres as hard as you can - it will mean you put in less effort when cycling and also helps resist punctures. Bring a spare pump/patches if you have them to hand.
- Make sure your brakes are working. If you feel they are a bit loose and you are not sure what to do then get to the ride starting point a few minutes early and ask for help tightening them.
- Try and make sure your chain and other moving parts have been lubricated - this will mean you have to do less work!
- Ride with a smile!
